History of the Bread of Life Christian Church

The first Bread of Life Christian Church (Ling Leung Tang) was founded by the Chinese evangelist, Rev. Timothy Zhao, in Shanghai, China in 1942. The Ling Leung Worldwide Evangelistic Mission was then founded in 1947. This was in response to God's calling to Rev. Zhao to preach the gospel to Chinese around the world by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Bread of Life Christian Church in Taipei was founded in 1954. The church has grown and presently numbers a combined total of about 6,500 adults and children attending Sunday services. The church currently holds services in Mandarin, Taiwanese, English, Indonesian and Tagalog. In 1988 it started to plant churches and has planted 33 local branch churches in Taiwan and 30 branch churches overseas.

The Bread of Life Christian Church in Kaohsiung was started in 1989 by Tom and Heidi Liao. Since that start with 8 people Pastor Liao has seen the church grow to a combined total of over 900 adults and children attending Sunday services. The church began growing most rapidly after reorganizing to a cell group church structure.

History of the English Fellowship in Kaohsiung

In September 1998 an OMF missionary organied a small weekly care group for Christian English teachers in Kaohsiung. This group slowly grew until it became obvious that it should multiply to form more groups. Two new groups were started in the fall of 2000 and all of the groups quickly expressed a need to get together regularly for worship and Bible teaching. A worship band was formed and the Bread of Life Christian Church offered the use of it's facilities and instruments to the band to practice. The advantages of belonging to a local church were quickly recognized by the groups, and the church was very happy to offer every assistance to start a new English Fellowship. A retreat at Chinese New Year 2001 led to the formation of a planning group, which then worked hard to see the first Sunday service begin March 4, 2001.
